Dubai developer welcomes plan to build a 15km extension to Red Line to serve Nakheel communities
A plan to build a 15km extension to Dubai Metro to link it to the site of the Expo 2020 event has been welcomed by developer Nakheel.
More than 110,000 people who live in some of Nakheel's biggest and fastest-growing communities are set to benefit from the the extension, the developer said on Monday in a statement.
It added that it expected the value of homes in its communities to be boosted by the transport project.
The expansion project, which was approved by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum last week, will directly serve Nakheel's Gardens, Discovery Gardens and Al Furjan communities, and provide nearby Metro access for residents of Jumeirah Park, Jumeirah Islands and Jumeirah Village Triangle.
Welcoming the Road and Transport Authority's plans, a Nakheel spokesman said: "The Dubai Metro extension is a major boost for these communities - and the wider area known as New Dubai - both in terms of the residents who live in them and investors who have bought land or homes in them.
"Residents will benefit from a transport alternative to the car, while the value of investors' properties will be enhanced."
The extended sector of the metro line from Nakheel Harbour & Tower Metro Station will include seven stations with construction work expected to start immediately. For all the latest real estate news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
