Nawras, the second mobile operator in Oman, has reported adding over 300,000 new subscribers since launching commercially in March last year, representing a 20% market share.
"Everyone at Qtel is delighted with the first year's performance and results from Nawras. They have demonstrated a willingness to not only listen to customers, but also to build their offers around the customers’ needs and wants. We wish them continued success in Oman," says Nasser Marafih CEO of Qtel.
Qtel, the telecoms incumbent in Qatar, together with pan-European operator TDC hold a combined 70% stake in Nawras, the operator that now has 80% coverage of the Omani population. Nawras is the first and only operator to offer EDGE mobile broadband technology in Oman and was also first to launch call back roaming services to provide roaming for Nawras prepaid customers in 70 countries through roaming agreements with 120 operators.
“In 2006 we look forward to building on this success and growing Nawras to reach out even further to our valued customers with a promise to keep listening to them and delivering best service, best value and best quality to them,” comments Ross Cormack Nawras CEO.
