Police reveal human cost of road collisions during holiday period in UAE capital.
Nine people were killed and 92 others were injured in 44 road collisions in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain during the Eid Al Fitr holiday.
Major Yaslam Al Tamimi, head of Serious Traffic Accidents, Abu Dhabi Police, said six were killed in Abu Dhabi in 37 crashes while two people died in six incidents on Al Ain roads from September 30 to October 4.
One person was also killed in the Western Region, news agency WAM reported.
Forty-nine of the people involved in the crashes were aged between 18 and 30 years, he said.
At least seven of the incidents, in which 22 people were hurt, were caused because offenders jumped red lights. 22 were injured in the seven accidents.
