Deal is part of loss-making airline’s bid to attract more business
Oman Air is offering free flights between Sohar and Muscat with any international flights booked, it announced on its website.
The special promotion launched this weekend is applicable on any economy or business class flights, but only routes operated by Oman Air itself and not those operated through codesharing agreements with its partner airlines.
The deal is part of the loss-making airline’s bid to attract new business as it restructures its balance sheet.
In October it was reported the Sultanate’s government has approved a restructuring plan, including the creation of subsidiaries and ventures to handle some businesses.
The government will take an additional 138.1 million rials ($359 million) worth of shares in the airline in exchange for a cash injection which occurred last year, raising the company's paid-up capital to 684.2 million rials, Reuters reported.
Oman has a fleet of about 37 planes, according to its website. Boeing Co said it had booked 20 firm orders for its 737 MAX single-aisle aircraft from Oman Air.
