Oracle buys utilities firm

Oracle has continued its acquisition spree, capturing utilities specialist Lodestar for an undisclosed amount.

Oracle has continued its acquisition spree, capturing utilities specialist Lodestar for an undisclosed amount.

The software giant said it would add Lodestar's product offering to its Utilities Global Business Unit. Lodestar provides meter data management solutions; Oracle intends to add these to its own customer-specific capabilities, such as sales, customer care and billing.

"With the addition of Lodestar's products, Oracle plans to deliver the most comprehensive suite of mission-critical operational systems for all segments of the utilities industry, combining meter data management, load profiling, pricing, marketing, sales, customer care, billing, analytics and management of the networks, work force, assets and business-to-business transactions," said Larry Hagewood, senior vice president and general manager of Oracle Utilities Global Business Unit.

The deal is subject to customary conditions and is expected to close this month.
