New partnership will give Middle East viewers a taste of High Definition TV.
US broadcaster, Voom HD Networks, has signed a carriage agreement with Orbit to launch Voom HD channel in the Middle East. The agreement has been brokered by international broadcaster and distributor of thematic channels, Zonemedia. Arabsat also announced last month that it had signed a deal to bring another HD channel, Luxe.TV to the Middle East.
"Voom HD is ideal for introducing HD programming to our growing viewership," says Orbit president and CEO, Samir Abdulhadi. "With its HD production and the diversity of programming in its catalogue, we believe that Voom presents a high-quality offering."
Voom HD is delivered in 1080i format HD with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Its HD programmes include adventure travel, fashion, luxury lifestyle, art, live concerts, action sports and video gaming.
Since initiating its global expansion effort in October 2005, the company claims that its Voom HD brand has seen exponential growth in the international marketplace with more than 500 programming hours sold into more than 50 countries.
The global Voom HD channel has launched in Scandinavia, Estonia, and Latvia, and will soon launch in Hong Kong and Singapore. Voom HD has also been deployed in Canada on three branded channels operated by High Fidelity TV, and Skylife's SkyHD deployed a daily primetime Voom HD branded programming block on Korea's first and only HD programming service last September. With the new partnership, Voom will now make an entry into the Middle East as well.
