Pacific Basin open regional HQ in Dubai

Hong Kong based Pacific Basin, one of the world’s leading dry bulk shipping operators, has announced the opening of it’s new regional headquarters in Dubai.

Hong Kong based Pacific Basin, one of the world’s leading dry bulk shipping operators, has announced the opening of it’s new regional headquarters in Dubai. Pacific Basin Middle East FZE will be responsible for developing and coordinating Pacific Basin’s dry bulk activities across the Middle East and South Asian markets.

Operating an extensive fleet of handysize and handymax tonnage, Pacific Basin boasts one of the youngest fleets in the world with an average vessel age of around five to six years.

“This move reflects both the growing importance of the Middle East and South Asia for dry bulk cargo and Dubai’s development as a regional centre for shipping and logistics,” said Eddie Filus, director of business development for Middle East and South Asia.

Filus will manage the regional setup bringing with him nearly 30 years experience in the shipping industry, of which ten years have been based in the Middle East region.

Pacific Basin’s vessels have been regularly serving the region, exporting fertiliser and iron ore, importing clinker, grain, coal and forestry products as well as participating in the booming interregional movement of aggregates and rock through it’s joint venture company, Fujairah Bulk Shipping Limited (FBSL). Pacific Basin say that the region’s economic growth, together with the industrial and commercial projects announced across the region, will mean an increased demand for quality dry bulk shipping and logistics solutions. Increased regional brand awareness is cited as a major objective for the move.
