UK boxer Amir Khan is being lined up as an opponent for Manny Pacquiao, should his proposed mega-money bout against Floyd Mayweather on May 12 fall through.

Pacquiao’s long-time adviser Michael Koncz told the Manila Standard that Amir Khan is the front runner for a fight that could take place in Abu Dhabi or in England.

“Khan is the front-runner, provided he doesn’t price himself out,” said Koncz.

Staging the fight in the UAE or Britain would make it difficult to sell to pay-per-view audiences in the US and South America, which he said would necessitate the fight being staged at 3am. However, if the financial incentives were lucrative enough, then having the fight in the UK or UAE would be a strong consideration.

Meanwhile, Emirates 24/7 reports that a boxing promoter has been in talks to get Pacquiao a fight of some sort in Dubai.

'Prince' Amir Shafypour, promoter and managing director at Golden Cage Promotions and Events, told the website that he has been in talks with Bob Arum of Top Rank and remains confident of getting the Filipino boxing icon to have a fight in the city.

“We are confident of hosting a fight featuring Pacquiao with or without Mayweather," Prince Amir told Emirates 24/7.
