Istithmar firm Palm Water has won a US $400 million (AED1469 million) contract to design, build, own and operate a sewage treatment plant (STP) and irrigation networks that will cater to a number of property developments in Dubai.

The plant will have a capacity to treat 220,000m3 of sewage daily and will serve developments including the Jumeirah Lake Towers, Jumeirah Islands, Jumeirah Park, Jumeirah Golf Estates and Jumeirah Village.

This is the second contract the firm has won from developer Nakheel recently; the first being a $0.27 billion contract at Dubai’s International City.

It will be built in phases, with the first phase due to be onstream by April 2008. International firms are expected to be involved in the design and construction of the STP.

A proposal to pre-qualified bidders is due to be issued within the next six weeks, with the contract for the design and construction due to be awarded in early 2007.

KEO is providing Palm Water with technical support; Hyflux will be involved in process design services.
