Hourly rate of AED4 to be charged under new resolution issued by Dubai Crown Prince
Parking fees in some parts of Dubai are set to double under a new resolution issued by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and chairman of Dubai Executive Council.
The resolution outlines a new tariff for select controlled public parking areas and aims to encourage the use of public transport within the area covered by the amended tariff, news agency WAM reported.
Controlled public parking in Dubai will be divided into two categories - the first includes the public parking areas where the amended tariff will be applicable and the second includes all parking spaces that continue to be subject to the previous tariff rates.
The first category includes approximately 30,000 parking spaces constituting 23 percent of the total 130,000 paid parking spaces in Dubai.
The amended tariff rates for parking on the side of the street include AED2 for 30 minutes, AED4 for one hour, AED8 for two hours, AED12 for three hours and AED16 for four hours.
The new tariff rates for parking lots are AED3 for one hour, AED6 for two hours, AED8 for three hours, AED12 for four hours, AED15 for five hours and AED20 for 24 hours.
According to the resolution, the parking tariff is applicable for 14 hours per day from 8am to 10pm on working days. The tariff is not applicable on Fridays and official holidays.
The changes are expected to come into effect either late May or early June.
The Category 1 areas cover the central business districts in most of Deira and Bur Dubai as well as its adjoining localities.
The resolution also outlines amendments in the tariff for seasonal parking permits which will cost AED1,400 for three months, AED2,500 for six months and AED4,500 for one year. The new rates for seasonal parking permits for parking lots are AED700 for three months, AED1,300 for six months and AED2,500 for one year while the new tariff rates for multilevel parking garage permits are AED2,000 for three months, AED4,000 for six months, AED8,000 for one year and AED300 for three months for students.
