Parking system made compulsory

A parking management system will have to be included in the design of all shopping centres and public buildings under planning or construction in Dubai, under a new regulation by Dubai Municipality.

A parking management system will have to be included in the design of all shopping centres and public buildings under planning or construction in Dubai, under a new regulation by Dubai Municipality.

The system will inform visitors of the available space before they enter car parks.

Dubai Municipality has made the rule mandatory for all proposed projects as well as those under construction. The decision comes a month after a circular was issued, allowing time for consultants and contractors to redo their drawings for ongoing projects.

Khalid Mohammed Saleh, director of the building department at Dubai Municipality, said the new regulation applies to all commercial centres as well as buildings with three or more floors that are fully or partly dedicated for parking.

He added that consultants would be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the system and ensuring it functions according to the standards set by manufacturers.
