Some sections of Qatar mega project set to be ready months before mid-2012 completion date
Parts of a multi-billion riyal development in Qatar are set to be ready well before the scheduled completion date in 2012, it was reported on Tuesday.
Some sections of the Barwa Commercial Avenue in Doha will be ready by the end of this year, a source said in comments published by Qatar daily Gulf Times.
The mixed-use development will offer about 600 shops and showrooms and 150,000 sq m of office space spread out along 8km.
There will be also around 800 luxury residential units in one- to three-bedroom floor plans.
The "contractual finish" is slated for June 2012 but parts of the project will be ready six to seven months before the completion date, the paper reported.
“A commercial avenue of this length cannot be handed over in one day and therefore it will be made ready in stages,” the source said, adding that the mega project was now more than 65 percent complete.
Parent company Barwa awarded the main contract to Germany’s largest international construction powerhouse Hochtief in June 2008 when the value of the project was given by officials as QR6.5bn.For all the latest construction news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
