Pearl-Qatar firm inks deal to bring in retail brands
The Pearl-Qatar island development.

The master developer of the Pearl-Qatar said on Sunday that it has signed an agreement to open a range of new retail outlets on the island.

United Development Company (UDC) said it has inked a deal with Blue Salon Company under which retail outlets of brands such as Blue Salon Kids, Nespresso, Ethan Allen, Samsung, Mimisol, Toys 4 me, Pressto, Gina, Kartell, and Oasis of Soul will open.

For Nespresso and Ethan Allen, the shops will represent their debut in Qatar, a statement said.

Badr Al Meer, acting CEO of UDC, said: "The Pearl-Qatar has succeeded in attracting some of the world's leading brands by virtue of a special environment at the iconic island.

"The presence of these global brands at The Pearl-Qatar, one of the best projects in the region, will further raise the profile of the island," he added.

The island is set about 400 metres off the shore of West Bay Lagoon and is a mixed-use residential, retail and hospitality development.

Nabil Abu Issam, vice chairman of Blue Salon, added: "The opening of new brands at The Pearl-Qatar is an important step within our strategy to provide superior products.

"We believe the new outlets will be a tremendous addition to The Pearl-Qatar, particularly in terms of our focus on proving access to quality brands and products in an environment dedicated to customer service and satisfaction."

UDC reported a net profit of QR577.9m ($158.7m) in the third quarter of 2013, an increase of 7.5 percent.
