Laing O’Rourke has appointed RW Gregory as consulting engineers on a US $565 million (£300 million) Private Finance Initiative hospital project.
The project will see all acute hospital services from Newcastle General be provided in modern facilities at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) and the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne.
The Freeman Hospital scheme is due for completion in 2008. The construction period on the RVI will take until 2013 to finish, although early phases will be handed over from 2009.
Other advisors involved in the project are architect, Anshen Dyer, and civil and structural engineer, WSP.
