Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte will visit Qatar in the first half of 2017, according to reports.

The country’s ambassador to Qatar, Wilfredo Santos, told the Qatar Tribune the Philippines embassy in Doha has been instructed to prepare for a visit first from the nation’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs intended to lay the ground work for Duterte’s trip.

Santos said it had been four years since the last high level visit between the two countries and it was time the Philippines president visited the “economic powerhouse.” He said education, culture, health and tourism were among topics expected to be discussed during the official’s visit.

Filipino expats make up Qatar’s third-largest population after Indians and Nepalis, amounting to over 220,000 Filipinos in 2016, an 18 percent increase from last year.
