10 designer bags to invest in this spring
Timeless options are the best choices
Designer bags are an investment – that’s a no-brainer. You don’t spend thousands of dollars on a bag you’re going to throw away next season, well, unless you’re a billionaire.
\nTo me, a designer bag needs to be something you can wear season after season. After all, if you’re going to spend so much on a product, it might as well be timeless.
\nSo behold, the 10 branded bags I think you need to invest in this spring 2016.
1. I know what you’re thinking: the colour is bright. But notice how yellow keeps on debuting on the runways? It adds a hint of colour to a winter wardrobe or pairs well with summer clothes. This Balenciaga Papier has a traditional form and non-so traditional colour, but it’s a modern, timeless piece in my eyes anyway. 2. Gold never goes out of style, which is why I chose this metallic Burberry number for spring. Some might argue that bucket bags are last season’s trend, but they’re trending again this spring as the runways of 2016 are filled with them. 3. “Special” would be the best word to describe Dolce & Gabbana’s bag designs. One of my favourite pieces from the brand’s spring collection is this medium Sicily bag with a print of Italy. I love it when you don’t see a hundred other people sporting the same bag as you – and I doubt a lot of people are brave enough to sport this piece. Why is it timeless? Special pieces are always timeless. 4. Chanel’s sales have increased rapidly in recent years. This is a good and bad thing. For one, Chanel bags are not as exclusive as they used to be – and two, they’re not as special, because so – many – people – have – them. This particular piece from the brand, however, is very much special. It’s one of only several pieces and has a unique form to the brand’s usual flap shape. So if you can get your hands on this “Minaudiere,” get it without hesitation! 5. Large white bags are coming back in style now more than ever. And even if they go out of style, this Ralph Lauren Soft Ricky number will always look chic because 1. Large bags are always in fashion 2. White goes with almost anything and 3. A Ralph Lauren bag will always be a Ralph Lauren bag. 6. Emerald green has been gracing designer runways season after season. I’m still cheering it on for spring. It’s elegant, has a regal feel, and makes a bag look like it’s worth a lot – even if it’s not. Don’t believe me? Pay closer attention to the shade the next time you go shopping. There’s a reason Elizabeth Taylor sported it repeatedly. For a handbag in emerald, I recommend going for this Valentino single number. 7. Speaking of emerald, this Chloe drew bag in python and lambskin is my go-to choice for a satchel. It’s a pretty fancy bag, so it spikes up any outfit, whether dressy or casual. I love the gold chain too as it pairs well with the shade and adds even more oomph to the bag. 8. Believe it or not, leopard has been trending big time on spring runways. From Miu Miu to Yves Saint Laurent, brands have been using the print on everything from bags to shoes and even shades. Because it can easily look over-the-top (in a bad way), I recommend investing in this simple Lanvin satchel in leopard. 9. How cool does this Louis Vuitton transparent clutch look? We’ll admit you can’t fit much in there, but you don’t need to on a night out. This piece is without a doubt a statement – which is why I think it’s a great investment piece for spring 2016. 10. Blue is another shade that’s been big trend-wise, both on winter and spring fashion shows. I love Dior’s blue shade in this lambskin Lady Dior because it’s deep, dark, but still looks fresh for spring. Don’t you agree?
