5 restaurants and bars to try on Sheikh Zayed Road
Dubai’s famous road is home to some of the city’s best dining and nightlife scenes
DIFC and Downtown might be home to some of Dubai’s best dining and nightlife destinations, but it is the beginning of Sheikh Zayed Road where a few of the city’s best are located. Here are five we recommend. 1. Bistrot Bagatelle: This New York brand is actually a French-inspired concept with decor reminiscent of an old Parisian apartment filled with Art Nouveau mantels and chandeliers. It is best-known for its swanky atmosphere and after-dinner party scene – think modern 1940s-inspired glam. Bagatelle is located in the Fairmont Hotel. 2. Play: Besides really great food, genuinely helpful staff and impressive decor, Play is best known for its atmosphere. It is both posh and laid back, meaning it leaves space for intimate dinners, but also has an open-space bar area for mingling. We love the venue’s floor-to-ceiling windows offering a great city view. Play is located at the H Hotel. 3. Vii: This lounge is the closest thing you’ll get to dining outdoors in Dubai in summer. It has a large area decorated as a “secret garden” with lots of greenery, wooden floors and huge chandeliers. Think chic setting at a royal garden. It has great events in its black and gold indoor area, too. Food-wise, we highly recommend the sushi. For drinks, leave it up to the bartenders to wow you. Vii is at the Conrad Hotel. 4. Catch: You’ve probably already heard of this famous New York brand, which came to Dubai less than two years ago. It is still one of the best venues in the city. It has a really creative menu with really good food - despite some portions being small and overpriced. We love its friendly atmosphere and modern yet cosy decor comprising leather couches and stone walls. It is located in the Fairmont Hotel. 5. The Act: Dinner and a show? Yes please. Another New York concept, The Act combines theatre, dining and nightlife by providing a high-end restaurant menu and glitzy theatre decor where impressive cabaret shows take place. After dinner, it turns into an all-out club. It really doesn’t get more luxurious than The Act’s red velvet furniture and chandeliers. It is located at the Shangri-La Hotel.
