Brazilian youth on flash mob rampage

A rampage by thrill-seeking youths has taken place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Hundreds of young people took part in a ‘rolezinho’ – a massive gathering coordinated via social media during which underprivileged youths trash stores and cause disturbances in shopping malls. Shoppers ran from the Leblon mall, terrified by the sudden influx of trouble-makers.

Rolezinhos are a new form of social gathering and protest organized and joined primarily by working class teens in Brazil at shopping malls, traditionally the stomping grounds of the upper and middle classes. The controversial mass gatherings have shone a spotlight on class divisions in the country and led to some arrests and violence although most have been peaceful.
