Heavy floods hit Paraguay

Floods across Paraguay have forced 200,000 families across the country to flee their homes. The floods, caused by torrential rain raising water levels in the Paraguay and Parana rivers, have destroyed crops, flooded homes and blocked roads needed to supply food to thousands of people. Paraguay’s National Emergency Secretariat says the government has spent more than $3m on food to assist flood-hit families.
