How to master the gymwear look

Style tips from co-founder of House of Nomad, Ahmed El Sayed

How to master the gymwear look
Dubai is known for its glitz and glamour, dressy venues, and over the top designer wear. But what if you’re into casual sportswear and sneakers? What if you’re a fan of sweatpants over suits? Ahmed El Sayed, co-founder of Dubai-based brand House of Nomad, realised the gap in the market for luxe sportswear. In turn, he started his own label specialising in the trend. Here, we take a look at his top looks for tips on mastering sportswear.

Monochrome: El Sayed pairs a grey House of Nomad sweater with slightly darker sweat pants for a monochromatic look – and we love it! It says effortless but well put together. So when in doubt, go for a simple, same-colour look like the designer.

The oversized sweater: Sporty shouldn’t look too put together, but it shouldn’t look too scruffy either. Always pair a good watch and shades to add class to any gym-wear look. You might not have noticed the accessories, but they’ve made a difference in El Sayed’s all-black ensemble.

Shorts: This is tricky territory for most men. Shorts are either too short, too casual, or too boyish. El Sayed’s solution is a good quality t-shirt, trendy sports shoes, and again, good accessories.

All black: If you’re a newbie when it comes to gym wear looks, opt for an all-black pair. You can rarely go wrong in all-black. For winter weather, your best bet is sweatpants and hoodie. To give your outfit more class, pair it with designer sport shoes, like El Sayed’s Yeezy pair.

When it’s cold outside: And it’s pretty cold outside if you ask me – try a double jacket scenario. Opt for subtle colours and simple designs. Don’t combine more than two colours, instead, combine a sporty number with a dressier one, like El Sayed did in this look.

The bomber jacket: Bomber jackets are statements all on their own. So, don’t overcrowd it with other pieces. Instead, opt for a basic t-shirt underneath and classic sweatpants – or even jeans.

Summer sporty: This is very similar to the other shorts look on the list. The only difference is a V neck shirt. I like this option better because it’s more grown up. A V neck also looks dressier than a regular t-shirt.
