Airport developers ADPI and Zaha Hadid Architects have collaborated to design the world’s largest passenger terminal at Beijing International Airport. Terminal 1 will span 700,000 square metres (+ 80,000 square metres ground transportation centre), processing 45 million passengers a year (expanding to 72 million) and is set for completion in 2018. It remains to be seeing as to whether it will surpass Abu Dhabi’s Midfield Terminal, which is under construction and is expected to be between 630,000m2 and 702,369m2 in size. To put the Midfield Terminal into perspective: in size it is one and a half times the size of Dubai International’s Terminal 3 (which is currently the largest terminal in the world).
