Men’s must-have winter accessories
Why should the ladies have all the fun? Men have accessories, too.
The male species has long been left in the shadows when it comes to accessories. But now more than ever, brands are creating innovative men’s accessories - lots of them. And there’s no reason you shouldn’t have a taste. Say yes to the man bag - because why not? Contrary to popular belief, man bags are nowhere near feminine. They literally look like a stylish book under your arm. There’s something sophisticated about them. Except this season, it’s not about the big luggage bags any more, it’s all about clutches. I recommend this sleek black Prada clutch because it goes with practically anything. Wear it with a suit or a bomber jacket, either way you’ll look up to date. Statement shoes are in and boring shoes are out this 2016. Ever heard of the phrase, “Keep your feet warm and you’ll stay warm?” It’s been said for a reason – follow it with these fur-enveloped shoes from Dolce & Gabbana. If you think they’re too dressy, trust me when I say, most people won’t notice the fur unless they look twice – which they probably will, because you’re going to look rad in these. Make sure you wear them with simple pieces as they’re a statement on their own. Don’t shy away from prints, on the contrary, use them to add some colour to your outfit. I don’t mean literal colour, I mean some movement to your otherwise basic shades. If you’re not used to wearing prints and are not comfortable with them just yet, try a subtle look like this one from Dolce & Gabbana. Combine a tie, pocket square, and thin silk scarf of the same print. You’ll be the most stylish one in the room, I promise. Perfume is an accessory – believe it or not. Jokes are made around Middle Eastern men and their excessive use of perfume. But I like it when a man passes by and his scent lingers for a little while. A men’s perfume brand I always resort to is Dior. Their fragrances hold a unique smell that last longer than most others. The brand’s latest Sauvage perfume, a mix of wood, spices, and fruits, is a must-try. Hats have been left in the dust for far too long. It’s a tradition touch that every man should wear, especially in winter. I mean, have you seen David Gandy? He’s always sporting them and he’s practically a style master. (If you haven’t seen David Gandy and don’t know who he is, I recommend you google him right-this-second.) In terms of colour, burgundy has been trending big time this winter. So, I advise going for this Armani classic wool hat in the dark shade. There’s something about boots that can make any man look, well, manly. The best thing about them is that they add edge to any outfit – be it a suit or casual jeans. However, be careful to distinguish dressy boots from sporty ones. To know the difference, pay attention to the design. If they look like a classic pair of suit shoes, they’re dressy. If they look like something a biker would wear, they’re sporty. Easy, right? I’m a huge fan of this dressy Dolce & Gabbana pair. Forget big watch brands for a minute. You don’t have to spend a fortune every time you want to change your watch. Instead, have a few luxury watches and a few fashion-oriented watches like this Marc Jacobs piece. Fashion watches are inexpensive (well, compared to the bigger names) and can be changed often depending on your outfit. We’d say stick to silver for winter as it goes better with dark winter colours. Monogram wallets are a thing of the past – at least for winter. This season, it’s all about subtle luxury. You don’t have to have Louis Vuitton written all over your accessories to look trendy. Try a Tom Ford wallet with a simple TF emblem in the corner. Or, go for alligator patterns for an extra special touch. How many men do you know have those in their pockets? Exactly. If you’re used to prints – or not – try pairing a shirt and tie of the same print. Doesn’t this duo from Dolce & Gabbana look good together? It’s new trend happening this year and I predict that it’s going to get big, especially on upcoming runways of spring and summer. Beat the crowd, be brave, and try this. This guy did and look how happy he is? I love these Givenchy cuff links because they look like cut offs of a watch band. The best thing about them is that they go with suits or semi-casual looks. Imagine them on a casual suit jacket with Capri pants and a scarf? Whether you fancy cuff links or not, you have to admit these are pretty cool. Accessories range from wrist chains to cars – that’s right, your car is your accessory, so choose it wisely. It doesn’t have to be a luxury car, but if it can, it should probably be the newest Jaguar F Type. It’s sleek, edgy, classy, fast… Should I go on? As I mentioned earlier, subtle monograms and brand symbols are all the fuss at the moment. I’m a fan of this “T” Tom Ford belt because it’s understated yet demands attention. Okay, I might be getting too descriptive, but it is Tom Ford - I can’t help it. If you don’t agree, check out the designer’s latest collection and then disagree.
