Malaysian fashion brand Hidaya International revealed winter season collection
Malaysian fashion brand, Hidaya International, has revealed modern abayas for the winter season Malaysian fashion brand, Hidaya International, has revealed a collection of contemporary abaya designs in Dubai. Showcasing at Cavalli Club, the brand featured pieces that were conservative but boast international trends as well. According to designer, Hidayah Wan Ismail, they were inspired by the 1930s’ economic downturn, where lack of dress material and funds led women to be creative with their clothes. At the time, frills and trims were reduced and cuts became more modest. “I was particularly inspired by the suffragettes after reading about how these women drew strength from their frustrations and stepped out to fight for the right to vote. I researched the history of the earlier suffragettes and my search digressed towards how women throughout history made an impact in their lives,” said Ismail. “I started imagining what it would be like to dress them. Like if Eleanor Roosevelt wore an abaya, what kind of abaya would she wear? And Angelina Jolie were to wear an abaya, what kind would she be attracted to?” she said, adding that the new collection is a mix of simplicity and elegance.
