Revealed: Top tanning tips before the summer months
April is probably the best time to get a tan in the UAE
In the UAE, April is probably the best time to get a tan, be it through laying at the beach or self-tanning in the comfort of your home sans-sun and sand. So behold, our best tried-and-tested methods. Exfoliate: You know that skin that starts peeling after a tan even if you didn’t get sunburnt? That is probably dead skin that you didn’t get rid of pre-tanning. This is why exfoliating before tanning is key to achieving an even and long-lasting colour. We recommend using a product from a dedicated tanning line such as the Exfoliating Bodywash from He-shi. Maximise your tan: Bronzed legs are great, but you can maximise the illusion of sleekness and Hollywood-like legs by using shimmery highlighters or dry oils such as Urban Decay’s Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder or Nuxe’s Dry Shimmering Oil. Apply an extra layer on the front of your legs for a leaner look. Lock in colour: The secret to prolonging your tan is keeping your skin from drying out and using a tinted moisturiser that locks in colour. We like the he-shi Souffle Moisturiser or our all-time favourite Clarins After Sun Moisturiser Ultra-Hydrating. Water spray: It goes without saying that you should drink water to stay hydrated while tanning. But you should also use water spray on your face and body to get a nicer looking colour. Water also helps you tan faster, so make sure you use a water spray like Evian’s mineral one every 15 minutes or so. However, do use SPF first and foremost. Tanning mitts: If you don’t want to tan out in the sun but are dreading the application of self-tanners, opt for tanning mitts from He-shi. They’re high quality, reusable, and actually give you an even tan as opposed to many self-tanning mitts and products. Say hello to streak-free finishes and stain-free hands!
