The world's most popular places to propose
Dubai ranked eighth while classic romantic destinations such as Venice came in ninth place
Proposals are more public today than ever, with couples sharing and ‘hashtagging’ their special moments across social media. For that reason, UK-based Avanti Jewellers analysed 10,000 photos shared on photo app Instagram and used the hashtags #shesaidyes #proposal #amazingproposal #beautifulproposal #ononeknee in order to find the world’s most popular locations where people go to pop the question. 1. New York came in first thanks to its impressive mix of skyline views and natural attractions including the famed Central Park. 2. Sydney’s coastlines and sandy beaches gave it a well-deserved ranking of number two on the list of the most popular places to propose 3. While a good number of major cities are included in the list, natural landmarks such as the Grand Canyon also proved popular. The canyon offers breath-taking views bound to make a memorable occasion. 4. Known for its magical Norther Lights, it’s no surprise that couples flock to Iceland to pop the question. 5. Adventurers seem to be increasing as the famous Incan citadel Machu Picchu ranks fifth on the list. The popular location is situated in the Andes Mountains in Peru, where visitors can enjoy views of the so-called “lost city”. 6. Not many would necessarily call London a romantic city, but its historical landmarks and stunning parks (not to mention its iconic London Eye) have landed it the sixth spot on the list. 7. We can easily understand why Niagara Falls came at number 7. The waterfalls straddling the border between Canada and the USA make for a dreamy proposal location. 8. Thanks to boasting several of the world’s record-breaking attractions including the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountains, Dubai has ranked eight on the list of the world’s most popular places to propose. 9. We’re not stunned romantic Venice made it to the list, but we are surprised it didn’t make it higher up. Italy’s small island is famous for having no roads and only canals, where classic gondola rides are a must. 10. Coming in at number 10, California’s Yosemite National Park is known for towering waterfalls and vast wilderness. It leaves a lot of space for a wide range of proposal ideas, including hiking through the woods or taking advantage of the clear night sky for some romantic stargazing.
