Did you know that 68 percent of the world’s billionaires have a keen interest in sports? Wealth X reveals the top 10 ways that billionaires choose to spend their free time. Certain events are a “must go” for many billionaires and those in their social circles, while other events are only interesting to a specific group of billionaires with particular hobbies and passions. For those billionaires who have interest in golf, the US Masters and PGA Championship are likely to feature in their 2015 social calendars. 68.3 percent of the world’s billionaires are serious about their chosen sport, with the most popular being equestrian activities, skiing, tennis and football. 51.9 percent of billionaires choose to spend their free time participating in philanthropic activities. Excluding future pledges, billionaires, on average, donate just over $100 million over their lifetimes. It is the equivalent of 3 percent of their net worth- more than the average billionaire’s real estate holdings. The majority of billionaires contribute to numerous charities, but tend o channel the bulk of their philanthropic contributions into one cause. For 28.7 percent of billionaires, their top cause is education or higher education, with some of the largest individual gifts going to universities. Outdoor activities are another main passion for at least 23.4 percent of billionaires, such as hunting and fishing. Likewise, art comes high in the list of interests with 23.1 percent likely to attend at least one, if not more of the many elite art shows held around the world. Yacht shows and racing events feature prominently on a billionaire’s calendar, with the Monaco yacht show and Grand Prix being ranked as some of the most important. Fashion Weeks play a pivotal role in the month of February when Fall’s latest and greatest designs hit Milan, New York, London and Paris runways. The only UAE based event that seems to attract a significant number of Billionaire’s in the famous Dubai World Cup which takes place in March.
