Violent clashes as Cambodia goes to the polls

Clashes between police and protesters erupted during voting for Cambodia’s parliamentary election. A National Election Committee member of staff was accused of denying people the right to vote, leading to violence on the streets. The parliamentary elections are the fifth since 1993, with 123 seats in the National Assembly up for grabs, and eight parties listed. The main contenders are the ruling Cambodian People’s Party and the leading opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party.
