Virgin Megastore reveals the solo-artist albums which have sold the highest number of copies in the Middle East this year

Debut studio album Doo-wops & Hooligans by American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars, called, was only released at the beginning of this month, but has already sold record sales in the region, and is the number two best selling album according to Virgin. The 26 year-old icon, whose real name is Peter Gene Hernandez, is known not only for his solo work but for co-writing and lending his vocals for songs such as "Nothin' on You" by B.o.B, and "Billionaire" by Travie McCoy. Lebanese singer Nancy Arjam is yet another idol in the Middle East. Not only have her star-studded performances in the region, including a set in Dubai, gone down a treat, but her album 7 has sold huge numbers here, coming in at the number three most popular. Amr Diab, the Egyptian singer and composer of geel music, is thought to be the best-selling Arab recording artist of all time. Between 1998 and 2009 he was awarded the World Music Award for Best Selling Middle Eastern Artist four times, and has also sold over 50 million albums worldwide. R&B artist and pop diva Rihanna is an international high flyer, as well as being one of the most respected singers in the Middle East. On New Year’s Eve 2009, the global superstar brought in the new decade in front of over 10,000 fans with a stunning two-hour long performance on the lawns of Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Palace followed by a spectacular firework display. DJ and French house music producer David Guetta has sold over three million albums and 15 million singles worldwide and is one of the most sought-after music producers. In the region, his albums One More Love made the album top-selling list at position number eight. Iraq's top singer Kazem al-Saher, had the number tenth most popular album with La Tazidh Lawaa. Hardly surprising, since his performance at the Jordan Festival in 2009 left fans hankering for more, and given that he is one of the most successful singers in the history of the Arab World. Music by the singer-composer, who has sold more than 100 million albums since the start of his career, ranges from romantic ballads and pop to Arab classical music. Justin Bieber is a Canadian pop and R&B singer, whose reputation in the West continues to grow. In the Middle East, the 17 year-old teen idol has sold plenty of copies of his album Never Say Never The Remixes, Virgin said, making it the 11th best selling album.
