The founder of Saudi Arabian company RP Group has been named as one of the most influential Indian businessmen in the GCC region.

Ravi Pillai, who began his business in the 1970s, was ranked fourth in the list of the 100 Most Powerful Indian Businessmen in the GCC by Arabian Business magazine.

Pillai's business was founded on the growth of industrial contracting company Nasser H Al-Hajiri Corporation, which employs 60,000 of his group's 70,000 employees.

The group also includes the Gulf Asia Contracting and Gulf Asia Construction businesses, as well as interests in tourism, healthcare, education and retail ventures.

He was one of eight Indian businessmen from the construction and real estate sector to feature in the list.

Other high-ranking entries included Danube Group's Rizwan Sajan (15th), Kabir Mulchandani of SKAI Group (21st), PNC Mennon of Sobha Group (22nd) and P Mohamed Ali of Oman-based contractor Galfar Engineering & Construction (33rd).
