Pipe firms set up Middle East joint venture

German manufacturer Buderus and UK firm Ham Baker have set up a joint venture to serve the Middle East region.

German pipe manufacturer Buderus is entering the Middle East market under a joint venture with UK pipe-fittings firm Ham Baker.

The joint venture firm, Buderus Pipe Systems, will offer products from both firms to enable a one-stop-shop solution to clients. Edward Howard, group managing director of Ham Baker explained: "Buderus could sell pipes but had no access to fittings and Ham Baker manufactures fittings but not pipes. The two firms have worked together in Europe and they knew we had a presence [in Dubai] so we carried out discussions, which have resulted in this joint venture."

The firm will be based at South Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZ) and will serve the whole of the Middle East region. Products will continue to be manufactured in Europe and Asia before being collated and packaged in Dubai ready for distribution to clients. Existing tender bids in the region will be finalised under the new venture. "Several projects that we have been quoting on over a period of time will now become joint projects," confirmed Howard.

Ham Baker has had a presence in JAFZ for around three years; Buderus previously sold into the region directly from its base in Germany.

The joint venture was officially launched at WETEX 2007, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority organised water, energy technology and environment exhibition.
