Plug-Ins jumps on CSR bandwagon

The UAE's multi-brand electronics powerhouse launches Go Green Initiative, enticing customers to return old appliances in exchange for gifts.

UAE-based multi-brand electronics and IT retailer Plug-Ins, a member of Al-Futtaim Group, has introduced its Go Green initiative to support the safe disposal of electronic items in an environmentally friendly manner.

As part of the drive, customers will be encouraged to bring old mobile phones, laptops, desktops and printers to any Plug-Ins stores in the UAE and receive a special certificate of appreciation and a surprise gift.

Plug-Ins will ensure the safe and environmentally friendly disposal of the electronics products in accordance with Dubai Municipality guidelines.

"The initiative is among the first from an electronics retailer in the UAE. The Go Green campaign is about being smarter and caring for the environment," commented Vishesh Bhatia, group director for Electronics, Engineering & Technologies, Al-Futtaim Group.

"With this initiative, we are showing a commitment to educate and encourage the community about safe disposal practices in electronics and helping to green the environment. The technology industry has an opportunity to be a positive force for change and integral to environmental solutions for the UAE that will ensure future generations inherit a healthy planet," he added.

Plug-ins represents more than 300 leading brands in the UAE through an established network of five stores located in popular shopping destinations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The electronics powerhouse will also be the anchor tenant in The Electronics Precinct at The Dubai Mall, scheduled to open in August 2008.
