Pointing fingers at the Pocket PC market

HP launches its first branded iPAQ, and builds in features including Bluetooth, remote control and a revolutionary fingerprint scanner designed for increased security.

HP has launched its new iPAQ Pocket PC h5400 series, claiming that it is the first handheld device to integrate wireless LAN, biometric fingerprint authentication, Bluetooth technology and universal remote control. The iPAQ range was previously branded as Compaq and this is the first to assume the HP name since last year’s merger of the two companies. The h5400 series allows the user to incorporate additional levels of biometric security into their Pocket PC use – using a built-in fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint registration acts rather like a password, authenticating the owner’s unique fingerprint, and allowing access, with a simple fingerprint swipe. Vishnu Taimni, product manager for notebooks and Pocket PCs, Personal Systems Group, HP Middle East, said: “The iPAQ Pocket PC h5400 offers mobile professionals more freedom in their everyday reality, by availing them everywhere a new degree work flexibility. With the advancement of biometrics as suitable security for handheld devices, we can continue to offer the corporate user secure products to use in the home and at work.” Through high-speed wireless LAN networks, the iPAQ Pocket PC h5400 series allows access to information through a corporate network or wireless hotspot area (sometimes found in airports, hotels, etc). Accessing remote data is also seamless when using the iPAQ Pocket PC h5400 coupled with a Bluetooth-enabled phone.
