Emaar Properties founder and chairman has been named by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) as being among an 11 member advisory board that will support the upcoming 2018 Future Investment Initiative (FII).

The second edition of the FII is slated to take place from October 23 to October 25, and will focus on how investment can be used to drive growth, fuel innovation and shape the economies of the future.

Other members of the advisory board include Mastercard president and CEO Ajay Banga, Thrive Global founder and CEO Arianna Huffington, Siemens AG president and CEO Joe Kaeser, Founders Fund co-founder and partner Peter Thiel, Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman, Softbank Group CEO Masayoshi Son, and Lubna S. Olayan, the CEO and deputy chairperson of the Olayan Financing Company.

“Every day, businesses and governments explore how technology and partnerships can drive new innovation and new opportunities to benefit people economically and socially,” Ajay Banga said. “The Future Investment Initiative has proven to be an important venue to bring together leaders to discuss the needs of our shared future. It’s events like this that sparks real action.”

The 2017 FII saw a number of high-profile initiatives announced with Blackstone, Softbank, Virgin Galactic, the Spaceship Company and Virgin Orbit. Additionally, the event saw the launch of the Public Investment Fund Program for 2018-2020, one of 12 Vision 2030 Vision Realization Programs, which will act as a roadmap to help drive the economic diversification in the kingdom and transform Saudi Arabia into a global investment powerhouse.

“Last year’s inaugural Future Investment Initiative made it clear that this is an essential stop on the global business calendar, particularly for anyone interested in a truly international perspective on innovations and forward thinking from all parts of the world,” Arianna Huffington said. “Since then, the pace of change has only accelerated, making an even stronger case for how vital this unique gathering of leaders is for advancing our human potential.”
