An additional 53 people have recovered from the disease, bringing the total to 239
The UAE has detected 300 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s total to 2,659, authorities announced on Wednesday.
In a press conference, Dr. Farida Al Hosani, the spokeswoman for the UAE health sector, added that an additional 53 Covid-19 patients have recovered, bring the total number of recoveries to 239.
To date, over 539,000 coronavirus tests have been carried out in the UAE.
In her remarks, Al Hosani said that the recovery rate for coronavirus patients around the world is below 25 percent. While mild cases often recover in “two or three weeks”, severe cases can take significantly longer.
Additionally, Al Hosani harshly condemned some UAE residents for not disposing of medical masks properly.
“We refuse such behavior [such as] littering masks. They may be contaminated and might contribute to the spread of coronavirus,” she said. “We need to promote good behavior. Dispose [of the masks] in trash cans.”
Globally, there have been over 1.45 million confirmed cases of coronavirus, including over 83,400 deaths and 309,318 recoveries.
April 8 marks the 100th day since the World Health Organisation (WHO) was informed of the virus.
