Covid-19: Oman announces 1,043 new cases

Oman’s Ministry of Health has detected 1,043 new cases of Covid-19 in the sultanate, according to the state-run Oman News Agency.

According to government statistics, the new detections bring the country’s total to 24,524.

To date, Oman has also registered 108 deaths, as well as 9,533 recoveries.

Earlier this week, Oman announced the establishment of a committee that it says will address the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the committee will be headed by the Minister of Interior and will look at returning the economy to a position of economic growth, following the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and low oil prices.

“In the light of the local and global economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik gave his Royal Orders to form a committee emanating from the Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from coronavirus pandemic,” the statement from The Private Office said.

Globally, there have been more than 8 million confirmed cases of Covid-19, including more than 436,00 deaths and 4.14 million recoveries.
