Giuliani booked to talk to Dubai Forum

Former New York mayor poised to return to emirate as keynote speaker to business leaders.

Former New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani has been named as the keynote speaker at an event in Dubai in November.

Giuliani, who was in charge of the US city when terrorist struck the Twin Towers in September 2001, will speak to the 2008 Leaders in Dubai Business Forum, which is taking place at Dubai International Convention Centre from November 16-18.

It will be his second appearance at the event in the emirate after previously attending it in 2004.

He is due to discuss the topic of rebuilding optimism in international business and trade in keeping with this year’s forum theme of Emerging Strategies for Tomorrow’s Challenges.

“We are delighted that Mr Giuliani will be joining us again at Leaders in Dubai Business Forum,” said Lucy Mountain, conference director.

“Many things have changed since Giuliani was last with us in 2004 and he is the ideal person to discuss present relations and future trade opportunities between the Middle East and the United States.”

‘Rudy’ Giuliani is a former US Attorney who prosecuted a number of high-profile cases, including ones against organised crime and Wall Street financiers.

He served two terms as the 107th Mayor of New York and was credited with initiating improvements in the city’s quality of life and with a reduction in crime and unemployment.

During his time in office, he converted New York from one of the most dangerous cities in the US to the safest, thereby attracting more business and the creation of jobs.

Giuliani gained international attention during and after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.

In addition to Giuliani, confirmed speakers for this year’s forum include James Wolfensohn, Mohamed El Baradei, Tom Peters, Sir Winfried Bischoff, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Dave Ulrich, Geoffrey West, Thomas Frey, Rajat Gupta and David Taylor.

The forum is expected to attract 1,500 participants from 40 countries. In its fifth year, the Leaders in Dubai Business Forum 2008 is the region’s largest conference for the local and international business community.
