The population of Oman has exceeded the 4 million mark, according to new statistics revealed by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
As of the beginning of April, the total population in Oman had reached 4,000,345, with Omanis making up 55.8 percent of the population.
A total of 2,232,949 Omanis were recorded, while expatriates comprised 44.2 percent of the total population with 1,767,396 expats recorded in Oman.
Comparing these figures with those issued at the end of December 2013, the number of Omanis increased by 20,256 in the first quarter of 2014, while expatriate numbers increased by 23,049 in the same period.
The figures showed that Omani males outnumber Omani females in the sultanate. The total number of Omani males was 1,130,115, while the number of recorded Omani females stood at 1,102,834.
For the expatriate population, the number of males was higher than females, with 1,448,816 males versus 318,580 females.
The Governorate of Muscat recorded the highest percentage of expatriates which stood at 62 percent of the total population of the Governorate by the end of March 2014.
On the other hand, in Al Dakhiliya the ratio of Omanis was 77 percent while in Al-Batinah the ratio of Omanis stood at 75 percent.
