Saudi Arabia wants to strengthen ties with Russia, its foreign minister Adel Jubeir has revealed.
Russia is an “important” country that is home to more than 20 million Muslims, Jubeir told local media following diplomatic talks on Sunday.
The kingdom wants greater cooperation between it and Russia in the fields of oil and energy, and combating terrorism, according to a report in Arab News.
And the Syria crisis would not affect levels of cooperation possible despite the countries’ opposing views, Jubeir insisted.
He was quoted as saying: “Russia is a superpower and an important state and we are keen to build excellent relations with them in various fields.
“We have great mutual understanding over regional issues topped by the Palestinian cause.”
