Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Housing Shuwaish Al Duwaihi has promised to allocate houses for citizens without a home by October, it was reported.
Addressing a program on Saudi television, the minister backtracked from an earlier promise to allocate housing units by July, the Saudi Gazette said.
Al Duwaihi said all Saudi men and women who were entitled to have house would get one within seven months following registration through the ministry’s electronic gate.
“Those working at the kingdom’s foreign missions, as well as foreign scholarship students and all citizens staying abroad can submit their applications online,” he was quoted as saying.
Al Duwaihi warned against providing false information while applying for housing units.
“Each applicant shall produce an undertaking that all the furnished information is correct, and those who violate the regulations in this regard have to face penal action,” he said. “The qualified applicants have to mention about the number of their electricity meter reader and not that of the electricity bill so as to avoid any malpractice in this regard.”
According to the report, a large numbers of citizens have approached the Real Estate Development Fund for housing loans, with some applications submitted nearly 15 years ago and still awaiting a response.
The Shoura Council on Monday demanded that the administrators of the fund find quick solutions for the housing problem.
