The UAE has achieved a significant breakthrough in its clean energy strategy, with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan meeting with the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) delegation to discuss the country’s nuclear energy progress.
During the meeting at Qasr Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi, the President commended the company’s efforts in driving strategic national projects.
Sheikh Mohamed emphasised the nation’s confident approach to the future, highlighting the crucial role of national talent in advancing key strategic initiatives.
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed highlights UAE’s clean energy leadership
ENEC has positioned the UAE as a global leader in clean energy transition, with the recent start of commercial operations at Unit 4 of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant marking a pivotal moment in the country’s journey towards net zero emissions by 2050.
The company has distinguished itself with remarkable achievements, becoming the first market worldwide to offer clean electricity certificates from nuclear energy.
The UAE now leads globally in adding clean electricity per capita, with 75 per cent of this electricity generated by the Barakah plant.
ENEC’s efficiency is noteworthy, with the ability to deliver nuclear units in just eight years – a timeline considered unprecedented in the global nuclear energy sector.
The high-profile meeting was attended by numerous senior members of the UAE’s leadership, including Sheikh Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation; Lt.
