The UAE and Lebanon have agreed to take the necessary steps to reopen the Emirates’ Embassy in Beirut and establish a joint committee to develop a mechanism to issue entry visas for Lebanese citizens to the Gulf country.
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati met in Abu Dhabi on Thursday to discuss their ties and enhance cooperation in various fields, according to Emirates News Agency WAM.
The decision comes months after the Emirates, along with several other countries, issued travel warning and bans amid deadly clashes in early August between rival armed groups in the South Lebanon refugee camp of Ain Al Hilweh which left several dead. The UAE, at the time, banned travel to Lebanon for Emirati citizens.
In addition to the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, the UK, and Germany updated their travel warnings and the Saudi embassy in Lebanon urged its citizens to quickly leave the country and avoid areas of conflict.
