UK-based Snoozebox plans to bring portable hotel offering to GCC market
A portable hotel company that converts shipping containers into rooms has signed a deal with a Dubai-based conglomerate with a view to expanding in the GCC.
UK-based Snoozebox, which is listed on London’s AIM, has agreed a “strategic partnership” with Dutco Group to explore hotel opportunities in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Snoozebox has said the portable hotel rooms, which do not require mains electricity or water, will be in demand for major events in the region, like Dubai Expo 2020 and Qatar’s World Cup 2022.
“This strategic partnership represents another step in the development of the business and we see numerous exciting opportunities in the region. The unique Snoozebox offering is ideally suited to the Gulf’s landscape,” said Lorcán Ó Murchú, Snoozebox’s chief executive.
Dutco Group, which has significant interests in heavy civil engineering, construction, electrical, oil and gas services, communications, and hospitality, has said the Snoozebox brand will bring a new concept to the region.
“We see Snoozebox's strong brand and differentiated offering as an excellent complement to our existing Dutco portfolio and we are delighted to be bringing the Snoozebox concept to the region,” said Jason Peers, chief investment officer at Dutco Group.
Snoozebox currently provides portable hotel ‘on-site’ accommodation at major events and festivals across the UK and Europe. Offering flexible configurations and room availability, Snoozebox can be fully operational within days of arriving at almost any event or location.
Each Snoozebox room has an en-suite wet room with shower, basin and toilet, serviced daily with towels and toiletries. The rooms also come with air conditioning, flat-screen TV and free WiFi.
The company’s portable hotel rooms have proved popular at sporting events and music festivals, including the recent Rugby World Cup, Glastonbury and Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
