It was clear that Ziad Rahbani, son of composer Assi Rahbani and Lebanese diva Fairouz, had a creative streak from an early age. His first known artistic work was ‘Sadiqi Allah’ (My Friend God), a collection of writings that he wrote while still in his teens. He then went on to build a name for himself as an accomplished comedian, playwright, composer, singer and radio host.
His musicals, which satirise Lebanese politics both during and after the civil war are often strongly critical of the traditional political establishment, while his compositions are well-known throughout the Arab world.
In 2008, he was invited to perform in Damascus for the first time. It was considered a gesture of goodwill from Syria, which shares a long and fractured history with Lebanon. According to one account, a huge audience had assembled two hours before the show opened. Rahbani has also been involved in many political shows on the radio like Ba3dna Taybeen Oulou Allah and El Akl Zeeneh.
