Purple line to get consultant

A consultant for the construction of the fourth Dubai Metro line is expected to be appointed by the end of the year.

The proposed Purple Line will be built along Al Khail Road, which falls between Emirates Road and Sheikh Zayed Road.

It will operate as an express line linking Dubai International Airport and Jebel Ali Airport, and will be in addition to the planned Blue Line, which will run along Emirates Road and also connect the airports.

“We have just gone out to tender for consultancy services,” said a spokesperson from the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority.

“Once consultants are on board, they will do the basic design, and then we will go to tender for the design and build contract. A consultant should be appointed by the end of the year.”

The 49km Purple Line could open by 2012, two years after the Red and Green routes.
