Q-Tel signs Alcatel to push GSM network

Qatar Telecom (Q-Tel), the fixed and mobile communications operator for Qatar, has selected Alcatel’s GSM900/1800MHz solutions to expand its GSM/GPRS-based mobile network nationwide.

Qatar Telecom (Q-Tel), the fixed and mobile communications operator for Qatar, has selected Alcatel’s GSM900/1800MHz solutions to expand its GSM/GPRS-based mobile network nationwide.Through the signature of three expansion contracts worth US$30 million, Q-Tel aims to make the transition to enhanced mobile data services.Under these agreements, Alcatel will provide Q-Tel with its Evolium solution, including base transceiver stations (BTS), base station controllers (BSC), mobile switching centers (MSC), a home location register (HLR), operation and maintenance controllers-radio (OMC-R) as well as a full range of professional services. Alcatel will also supply an Intelligent Network (IN) platform for value-added services and revenue-generating applications such as prepaid (PPS).To carry high-capacity traffic among base stations, the network will use Alcatel's microwave radio systems. Along with the infrastructure equipment, Alcatel will run the entire management of the project, including network planning and implementation.Marc Rouanne, president of Alcatel’s Mobile Networks, comments: “Mobile communications are developing fast around the Middle East, and Alcatel is fully committed to provide Q-Tel with best-in-class mobile network solutions in order to offer their subscribers unsurpassed quality of service. This will lay the foundations for the introduction and launch of next generation multimedia services in the region."
