Qatar Airways Cargo travels to Malaysia

Qatar Airways has launched cargo services from Senai International Airport in Malaysia.

Qatar Airways has launched cargo services from Senai International Airport in Malaysia, linking the country to various destinations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The airline's freighter service, which is initially being operated once a week, makes Qatar Airways the first foreign carrier to run a dedicated cargo service at Senai International Airport.

"Senai International Airport invited Qatar Airways Cargo to provide a freighter service. We studied the proposal and decided this represented a good business opportunity," said John Batten, general manager of Qatar Airways Cargo.

Companies operating in southern Malaysia have already expressed considerable interest in the service, according to Qatar Airways, with approximately 80% of cargo being transported to Europe. In addition, the initial flights have experienced strong customer demand for destinations in the African and Middle Eastern regions.

Senai Airport Terminal Services (SATS) believes the service will help manufacturers in southern Malaysia to reduce their business costs and increase efficiencies in their transportation operations into important markets throughout the world.

"We plans to provide a direct linkage for local manufacturers into major global markets, with an emphasis on factors such as timeliness and cost efficiency. In particular, we are strongly positioned to attract airlines to provide freighter services to the US, Japan and China," said Datuk Mohammed Osman, SATS chief executive officer.
