Qatar National Bank (QNB) has launched Qatar’s first iris scan technology which will allow bank customers to access their accounts without a banking card or pin.

The new technology, which will be deployed at QNB branches and ATMs in October, allows customers to securely access banking facilities through the unique biological traits of their irises, according to Gulf Times.

QNB Group CEO Ali Ahmed Al Kuwari, speaking at the launch at the bank’s head office, said the new technology will increase security for the bank’s customers.

“The ‘Iris Recognition System’ technology solution reduces the risk of fraud, identity theft and unauthorised access by protecting confidentiality, integrity, and availability. It also helps QNB retain its competitive advantage and customer loyalty in the rapidly changing business environment,” he said.

Customers using ATMs can register with a QNB branch by using their Qatari identification card, and from next month will be able to access their bank account by looking into an inbuilt camera on the ATM.
