Qatar will not bid for the 2024 summer Olympic Games after previous unsuccessful bids for the 2016 and 2020 events.

Following the failed attempts to secure the prestigious sporting event, the general secretary of the Qatar Olympic Committee pledged to continue to bid in future but the Gulf state is not included in a list of cities published on Wednesday.

Los Angeles, Hamburg, Rome, Budapest and Paris will compete to host the 2024 summer Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee will elect a winner at a vote in Lima, Peru, in September 2017.

Doha failed to make the cut for the 2016 and 2020 games, but organisers said they would take on board comments from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) made regarding previous bids.

"We will continue on that path and we will continue to bid," the Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said back in 2012. "Every time we bid, we are listening and learning to see how we can make our bid stronger."

Qatar has already won the right to host the 2022 soccer World Cup, a controversial decision, which it plans to stage in summer inside air-conditioned stadiums to cope with the searing heat.

The small peninsula adjoining Saudi Arabia has a population of only 1.7 million people but is aiming to become a sports hub for the Middle East and North Africa region.

Would their bid be for the Summer Olympics to be held in the winter like the world cup is now going to be because of the tremendous heat?

Better to be upfront at the beginning.
