Pablo Picasso’s ‘Child With A Dove’ is reported to be heading to a gallery in Qatar
Cubist painter Pablo Picasso’s ‘Child With A Dove’ is reported to be heading to a gallery in Qatar after being exhibited in the UK for the last 40 years.
The 1901 artwork was recently sold for GBP£50m to the Aberconway family, the Huffington Post UK reported. The painting’s speculated departure to the Gulf state comes following a failed attempt to raise the funding required to keep it in Britain.
The work is currently fulfilling its final show in the UK at London’s Cortauld Gallery.
Arts Council England was last year advised over the significance of the painting, which marked the start of Picasso’s Blue Period, prompting Culture Minister Ed to put an export ban in place on the painting.
The bar expired on December 16, paving the way for the work’s departure from the UK.
