The Doha airport was named alongside Singapore’s Changi and Los Angeles’ International airport
Qatar’s Hamad International in Doha is one of the world’s most featured airports on photo sharing application Instagram, revealed travel search site Wego.com.
The Asia Pacific and Middle East site was exploring which airports were tagged most frequently by travellers on the app.
“We’ve seen an evolution in airports over recent years in terms of design, infrastructure and services, but combine that with more people travelling today than ever before, add a social media platform like Instagram, and you see which airports truly resonate with travellers,” said Wego.com Chief Flights Officer Dean Wicks.
“Hamad International Airport in Doha, which connects Europe and the Middle East to Asia and the rest of the world, is enjoying a strong presence on Instagram. Love it or loathe it, Urs Fischer's ‘Giant Teddy Bear’ (pictured below) dominates as a point of interest in the departure terminal, as does the giant moving walkway for transfer passengers between concourses A and E,” he added.
The most popular airport on the social app showed to be Singapore’s Changi airport, which features innovative installations, rooftop sunflower gardens, and annual festive celebrations for Christmas and Chinese New Year, according to Wicks.
Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport also proved popular despite having no official Instagram channel of its own. It was named the ‘most Instagrammed location in the world’ in 2012.
Other airports that appeared in the top ten most Instagrammed locations in the world include Los Angeles International Airport, its signature LAX sign and concentration of celebrities that pass through having contributed to its status. London’s Heathrow Airport, Sydney’s International Airport, New York’s John F Kennedy, and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport also made the list. For all the latest transport news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
